Well, it isn't really a hard  guess considering the different professional fields.

Balmohan Vidya Mandir Dadar.  Yes they all are alumni of the famous BVM Dadar.


And this is just a small list and there are many many other famous and highly successful personalities across various fields  in India whom BVM Dadar is proud of . One would definitely like to see the teachers of this school and the feeling of immense pride and satisfaction on their faces.. But we will talk about it some other day.. 


As we peep into the lives of great women personalities to draw our inspiration, I am forced to say that not always one has to really come through poverty and a life of misery and challenges to be great in the later part of life. As they say what you get is not in your hands but what you make of it is certainly your deed…

 

Considering the reader profile  of this article, Most of you may be having a decent life with all the basic necessities being taken care of and hence when you see someone similar to you making it big with sheer determination, passion and perseverance,  you surely would feel Inspired . 


These days when  Humanities ( Arts) Faculties  are pulling  highly meritorious students, it does make a case to understand how some of the  right brain tilted  ones  have made it big in their career  overcoming the high risk of getting cozy in their comfort zone provided by their family and other environment . 


Maintaining the quest for performance , not allowing the thirst to do something different get quenched by quick financial success is definitely a trait worth imitating… 


And hence today I would like to Salute along with you a multi talented artist  who has traversed a long and highly successful career  on basis of  her Skills , Passion sheer Determination and Grit ... Maa Chandraghanta the 3rd Navdurga


Yes we are Talking about Phulwa Khamkar … 






Phulwa Khamkar , born in sept 1974  a famous Indian choreographer and Classical Dance Artist  from Mumbai, who works in Bollywood and Marathi films. 


Born to a decent well off family, she did her schooling  from Bal Mohan Vidya Mandir  Dadar and has successfully carried forward  the long and wide legacy of making the school proud by her contribution to the society. BMV Dadar has hundreds of highly successful , globally recognized and influential personalities as its alumni, few names i have mentioned above 


While Graduation in Economics from R A Podar College of Commerec and economics doesn't truly describe  this excellent Kathak Dancer and choreographer, but its important to note since you just might be pursuing your commerce degree while you aspire a artistic career. 


I was mesmerised by the refreshing dance performance of Aishwarya  Rai in the song Taal se Taal mila in film TAAL and was pleasantly surprised to know that Phulwa Khamkar had choreographed it … 


Winner of India's first dance reality show Boogie Woogie, Season 1 in 1997, The Finalist in  Dance India Dance Super Moms in 2013, winner of Many other awards like Sony TV award , Zee  Gaurav award 2010 for the quite famous Song Apsara Aali from Natrang , Phulwa electrifies the environment wherever she goes with her smile and swift movements. 


She has choreographed more than 15 Hindi and Marathi films like, Happy New Year (2014), Julie 2 (2016), Natarang (2010), Kuni Mulgi Deta Ka Mulgi (2012), and Mitwaa (2015). She also won the Zee Marathi's dance reality show Eka Peksha Ek (season 1) and has judged the  second and third season of the same show . 


Phulwa has assisted Farah Khan for the song Manwa Laage of the film Happy New Year. She  has Guided Amruta Khanvilkar, Atul Kulkarni and Sonalee Kulkarni on perfecting their performance  in NATRANG. In Addition to Bollywood and Marathi films, She has choreographed few South Indian films and Punjabi films as well . 

She has her  own dance school, called Phulwa's School of dance and Gymnastics in Mumbai which is Training Dance and Gymnast Enthusiasts. 


Her Long successful career span and creative perspective with her dedication and devotion for dance, has certainly been a inspiration for buddying Choreographers and artists.

  • How To Become A Dance Choreographer ?


As you know the field of fine arts recognises and rewards Performance and not the degree. You should have a zeal a never ending love for the art. Being an excellent Artist yourself makes a strong case for you to be a Choreographer. 

 O fcourse  completing some short-term, certificate or  diploma course offered by the various art schools in India will be an advantage 


  • Short term or certificate courses take the duration of  six months.

  • Diploma courses take the duration of 1 – 2 years.

  • B.A in Art and Dance takes the duration of 3 years.is the most popular 

  • Pursuing Classical Dance course  through GURUS of certain Gharanas is the most popular and effective route though. 


  • Eligibility Criteria

The eligibility criteria for UG & PG courses in choreography is discussed below:

  • For UG Courses:

For admissions into UG courses, you must have passed 12th or equivalent exam in any stream from any recognized board. The duration of UG courses is around three years.

  • For PG Courses:

If you are looking for admissions in PG courses, you should have obtained a bachelor degree in the relevant field from any recognized college or institution.
