Salute To Feminine Power: Navratri Day 5
Somewhere back in 90s a Poor farmer from Solapur was making rounds of the collector office in Solapur to resolve some of his land related issues. The Red Tapism at its best was making him go round and round without any relief.
The poor farmer was frustrated and depressed… He was cursing his fortune and his life for the agony he was going through …all the while being watched by his 9 year old daughter.. She asked him why is he worried who is not paying his due money .. he said "the District Collector" That was the day probably when, the seed of becoming an IAS officer was sown in her mind and heart to solve problems of her father…
Rohini Bhajibhakare made a history when she walked in Salem’s Collector office in 2017 as the First Woman Collector of the district in Tamilnadu in its history of 227 years of having a collectorate headed by 170 Male Collectors till then…
Now the Ex Salem District Collector Rohini is one of the most efficient and well-known IAS officers of Tamil Nadu cadre. A completely peoples person , She brings all the public policies to the doorsteps of common people of the district., As a Collector she has executed all her programs and policies in an innovative way, and her courage to change the delivery system and the infrastructure has been appreciated by the Government of India and Tamil Nadu.
Her sensitivity and will to provide equal access to education for all reflected in her actions during one of her visits to the villages in Salem. While monitoring the development activities, she insisted on a surprise visit to a government elementary school near Attur.
Entering the Karutharajapalayam village school, she was surprised to see children playing on the playground during their lectures. When asked about why they weren’t in their classrooms, she was notified that they had been waiting for their teachers to come from some protest.
She wasted no time in getting the students back to class and started teaching them. For students of Class 1, 2 and 3, she taught Tamil and English.
She asked them to never give up on their dreams and aim to reach higher. It was only a matter of time, till she directed the education department officials to arrange teachers for these students. A small gesture … that made a BIG impact on the young minds.
A Proud COEPian, 36 year old simple looking the girl next door Rohini, now posted as Director @ Ministry of Education at the central Government is surely a lady with a mission..
On this 5th day of Navratri the day of Devi Skandamata … We Salute the modern day Nav Durga Rohini…
Incase you feel that IAS can be your career vehicle to make an impact in the society and leave your mark …
