YOUR CHILD IS STUDYING ...
IS HE BECOMING EMPLOYABLE ?

Have you ever checked ?
Mostly No ..
firstly, many may not be aware what is Employability and if they seek awareness they face a second uphill task of understanding how will it get developed ..

Secondly, you feel that since you have enrolled him in a good / best college then by virtue of Graduation from that college he will get employed ..

That is unfortunately not right .

Employability is the ability of the person to get employed basis his Skills, Attitude , Knowledge etc . And here i mean for both Self employment , Running a Business or getting employed in any company

Let us see some hard facts about education and its effectiveness in India
Graduate Students in India have an average EMPLOYABILITY of less than 40%. Its really HARD to accept that more than 60 of 100 graduated students are not worthy of any employment.

The numbers shown in the chart depict the sorry state of students graduating through various courses including Engineering / IT in India.
The data is taken from India Skills

Report which has surveyed more than 65000 students across various faculties and geographies of India .

To look into specifics lets look at Engineering, the PET field of Majority of India ,
The highest employability percentage is 48 for IT and lowest is 26% for Civil engineering students. Surprisingly for mechanical engineering the employability % is 36 . Mech Engg was till recently considered as best engineering faculty for a great career.

Simply speaking each of the 100 students who studied a course , say IT, did pay full fee to the college , attended all lectures and practical sessions mostly , and also passed all exams .. yet only 48 can be even considered for any available relevant Job while a major 62 are not even competent to be considered for a job application forget interview and selection.
Blame it on institutions or the students or society - the hard hitting fact still glares in your eyes.

In the Non Engineering or Overall graduation landscape, the state of affairs is worse.
while surprisingly MCA students are least employable with 22% , MBA students are better placed at the other end of the spectrum with not so encouraging 46%

This data is an eye opener for people who feel Engg / MBA means guaranteed job or for that matter who feel that just by taking up a particular education they may have better employment prospects.

Pls refer the two sample yet actual data charts in the images attached ( Reference : India Skills Report 2021 by CII )

While there might be a job out there in Market ( there actually are a lot) but the employer will not
employ any candidate usually unless he gets a candidate who is suitable for the available job.
As per the India Skills report, More than 60% students in general while in some educational faculties more than 70 to 75% students are Not worthy of employment.

What this means is that even after completing the degree the student hasn't developed himself to be worthy of getting a job.

There are multiple reasons for this dismal performance and few among those reasons are like
1. Choosing a wrong educational course,
2. Not understanding the kind of intellectual and skills preparation is required to get employed
3. Not developing the Right Attitude and soft skills and so on

  • for the first one No college provides any authentic objective guidance for obvious reasons ( They need admissions )
  • for the second they do make students aware but do not facilitate or monitor the On Ground implementation or sometimes college isn't aware of latest industry requirements.
  • 3rd point is quite often taken for granted and not paid any serious attention apart from arranging few guest sessions for the students.
Well, Institutions cater to students on a MASS scale and they do have certain limitations.

This emphasizes the requirement of a Career Coach in every Students Life ..
While Parents may want to and sometimes have a capability to mentor their children but Teenagers don't listen to their Parents quite often or sometimes the environment at home is not conducive enough to have a meaningful , constructive discussion about the career and life of teenagers.
Thirdly Parents may not be ( and they are not) aware of the latest trends and practices in the field chosen by their child

Hence Youngsters are deprived of Knowhow and implementation push
An experienced and expert handholding that helps them sail through turbulent times is the need of hour .. fortunately many students are realizing this and are seeking professional help

A Coach does come in handy...
Its better to Hire an expert Career Coach who will be in constant touch with your child , will counsel him, guide , train and support whenever and wherever required in his career development Journey..
He actually is a Third parent whom the child reaches out without any hesitation.
